DEF LEPPARD Guitarist CAMPBELL: 'The First Musician That Turned Me On Was MARC BOLAN'

Launch Radio Networks reports: The new DEF LEPPARD album, "Yeah!", lets people know exactly where the guys in the band came from musically. Guitarist Vivian Campbell told the Morning Call newspaper in Allentown, Pennsylvania, "We're showing our roots... Basically, what we wanted to do with this record was to pay homage to the music and musicians that turned us on. It is a mix of our musical awakenings and the glam-rock era, an era that really resonates with us, the first spouting of pubic hair and noticing girls." He added, "It's the most fun anyone in DEF LEPPARD has had making an album, and it is the quickest record made, and had the highest energy. Whether or not this album is successful (commercially),it sort of reminded us why we do this in the first place."

Campbell also revealed that T. REX was the band for him. he said, "You always remember where you were when you heard a certain song, like T. REX's '20th Century Boy'," he said. "The first musician that turned me on was (T. REX frontman) Marc Bolan. It was a Tuesday evening in 1971 when I saw him on TV, and I knew I wanted to play guitar at that moment, and it's been downhill ever since."

The current single from "Yeah!" is a cover of the DAVID ESSEX hit "Rock On". The band's performance of the song on "The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson" will be repeated tonight (Tuesday, July 18).
